hit it harder.....
With all the top u11's in the country participating in this u11 Open event, young Holly Williams gets off to a shocking start, losing 8-21 to Lisa Curtin in the initial group stages but luckily the top 2 go through. Holly then has a re-think & beats all before her prior to meeting Lisa in the final. No nerves this time as Holly romps home 21-10 to win!
30th Aug-2nd Sept @ Bergisch Gladbach, Germany
Rorymakes it a “Doubles double” in Germany.
Following on from his impressive win in the u15 boys doubles with Dorset partner JackMacGregor in the Globus Top 3000 tournament in Wagheusel, Germany, HBC's Rory Easton with his partner William Jones from Surrey completed the German double when representing England at the inaugural Adidas u13 Refrath Cup in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany at the week-end.
With top players from France, Germany, Belgium, Holland & Switzerland all competing for the honours, Rory & William had to overcome some stern opposition in the early rounds largely from Germany, only to meet the best France had to offer in the semi’s & final, finally coming through in a marathon 52 minute 3 setter against French number 1 pair Popov & Ramanana-Rahary.
16th-17th June @ Globus 3000 International, Waghaeusel, Germany
Rory & partner Jack MacGregor (Hampshire) headed off to Germany to have a go against many of the best in Austria, Italy, Switzerland & Germany and came away as surprised winners in the u15 doubles, an event they only entered to gain experience against bigeer, stronger opposition.
Unfortunately their u15 exertions left them mentally & physically weakened as they battled hard against each other in the boys u13 singles semi with Jack coming out on top, before having to play their u13 boys doubles final which they lost in 3 to strong German representation.
11th-12th May @ Gothenburg Open.
Rory Easton & u13 partner Jack MacGregor found the going tough in the group stages in the singles but came through win a couple of good wins for Rory against some top Swedes & an exceptional win for Jack against Anderson from Denmark.
Rory then faced the well fancied Sommer of Denmark who romped home in 2 sets before moving on to take the title.
Jack had no easier task against the top Swede Hammerberg & similarly lost in 2 sets.
In the boys doubles Jack & Rory played well in defeating Bech & Torp (Denmark), before despatching Bergendorff & Osterberg of Sweden in the 1/4 final. The semi final against the top Danish pair of Sommer & Jaeger was a tense affair but the Danes edged both sets despite being down at the turn.
28th April 2013
3 National medals across 2 age groups and it could have been more!! Paige Butler won Bronze in U17 mixed doubles and reached quarter finals in the singles. Both close matches but losing in three sets. Sadly only one bronze for Paige.
Sunday 10th Feb: U17 Suffolk bronze
It was a good days work for many HBC players.
A huge field & plenty of HBC participation with notable performances coming in the doubles as Brodie Maguire & Terence Ng fight valiantly before going down 23 25 in the boys doubles final to a strong Surrey pair.
Thursday 9th Jan - Sun 12th Jan
Emily Easton and Kent partner Hannah Spring won silver in the doubles, but failed ot get out of their boxes in the singles. Hannah had a tough box but Emily ......?? She doesn't seem to have the same determination in these events as when she plays singles in shires matches for the Kent team.
Luke Bailey wins bronze in the singles and silver in the doubles (teamed with Andrew Brownlie of Sussex).
Sheffield U13 Gold, 5th/6th Jan 2013
There were smiles all round for many a HBC junior at this weekend's TWBL tourney starting off with youngsters Emma Goddard & Darcey Berry as they came away with Gold in the u10's novice doubles and Emma also took the winners medal in the singles. Much like many an Olympian they just had to test the authenticity of the awarded medals......
Guy Jones nearly makes it a clean sweep with Gold in the singles, Silver in the doubles partnering Morrison & Gold in the Mixed partnering Emily Easton (also HBC). What a day! After a clutch of 5 singles titles Guy will now have to contend with u15 Silver events, but his effort on the training court with Jo Muggeridge has paid serious dividends these past few weeks. He also must be seriously fit at the moment to play successfully through group matches and knock-out rounds in all three disciplines on the same day!
No picture yet, but don't mess with Guy Jones as he has just completed his junior black belt in Jiu Jitsu after a 3 hour intensive exam! Congratulations Guy!
It may have been due to the relative home advantage (hosted at TW Sports Centre), but actually it's more down to the hard work put in over the summer as HBC juniors swept the board in impressive style.
With a star studded line-up of coaches including Team Forza's Ross Reid & Jurgen van Leeuwan, international players Carl Baxter & Joel Gayle plus resident coaches Jo Muggeridge & Alex Easton, over 40 juniors and some senior players attended our camp over 4 days to improve their skills & fitness.
Smiles all round for young Libby Saunders & Holly Williams as they earned silver in the "mixed" u11 doubles with Holly winning gold & and a huge shield in u11 girls singles.
TWBL Seniors, TWBL u19 & TWBL u15 produce an unpredcedented clean Sweep!
l to r: Terence Ng, Guy Jones, Rory Easton, Luke Bailey, Chris Hubbard, Tom Owen, Tom Allen & girls l to r:
Also victorious were u11 girls Hope Warner & Isabelle Thorpe in the u11 girls doubles.
Only 3 HBC juniors made it to Roende, Denmark for TRIF'S 2012 training camp & Yonex Open tourney but Holly Williams (u9 - on the left in this photo), Emily Easton (u13A) & Rory Easton (u13Meister) did NOT disappoint.
was a credible achievement.
First up was the Mixed where Elisabeth & Rory got off to a wobbly start but came thru' their first match in 2 sets as they got used to each others play.
It was no surprise then to see Rory & Kristian meet each other in the final of the boys singles & despite exhaustion playing its part, both boys gave their all in a thrilling 3 setter to end the day in style. Rory just edged it but the sport won again as the 3rd set went to 21 19 & both boys hugged each other in one last act of friendship & sportsmanship - why can't all tournaments end this way......
No less than five HBC junior players competed at the U13 Nationals on 17 March in Nottingham. Alex Berry, who has won Kent U13 singles and doubles titles for the last two years, performed brilliantly, reaching the last 8 in the girls singles. It was almost a bronze medal for Alex, but she lost a very close quarter final in three sets and had to come home without a medal. She was disappointed, however it was a fantastic performance which she should be proud of. Alice Xiao had a tough box in u13 girls singles and did not progress to the knock-out stages.
We've been waiting some time for a picture of young Francesca Smith, but mum finally got a snap after a deserved Bronze medal in the Ladies Doubles with partner Hannah Bailey from Derbyshire.
Both Holly Williams and Isobel Shircore are gettting a taste for victory while still U9 and U10 respectively!
15th Jan East London u13 SILVER
HBC's other boys actually had a surprisingly off day, but that may be down to tired legs from the Kent u15 Bronze the previous day with Ethan Solly carrying an injured left Knee & Thomas Allen injuring hinself badly in the doubles. So some rest is required before these lads will be back to their best. A speedy recovery boys.
Matthias Baskjaer and Paige Butler play brilliantly to win in straight sets against the 1st seeds before losing a cracking final in 3. Not so lucky for Matthias as he loses his semi final in 3 against top seeded Sam Parsons, but a top weekend's play from our Danish visitors who have to dash away to catch the 6.15pm flight home!
His final was a one way affair as he ran out a 15 5, 15 6 winner against Owen West Bourne from Sussex who battled his heart out to come thru his semi in 3 sets.
A big weekend coming up with Wycombe u13 GOLD & Essex u17 GOLD where we welcome some of our friends from Denmark in Matthias & Anina Baskjaer.
4th Dec - Herts u13 Silver
A few more medals up for grabs in the boys doubles with Ethan & Thomas cruising through their box only to be met there by Rory & William. Another 3 set battle ensued with Ethan & Thomas coming out on top 15 13, 5 15, 17 15. Sadly the boys ran out of puff in the final going down 12 15, 8 15 to Luke Donegan & Jack Tierney.
Paige played strongly all day, fighting through to the final and an encounter against her doubles partner Tsui-Yee Lau. An epic first set ensued with Tsui-Lee taking it 21 18. Paige then lost the plot a bit and lost the next 21 12, but a great effort in reaching the final.
The boys doubles saw Harry W & Rory navigate themselves through to the final against Ethan & Harry H only to again come up short 3 11, 12 14 so a very respectable showing against the best England has to offer at u11.
Alexandra Berry stormed through to the u13 Girls singles final in Edinburgh only to come up against a strong Scot's lass & number 1 seed Shona Whillians from Edinburgh. The girls were tied neck & neck until the final few points but Shona just pipped Alex to the trophy.
Alex likewise fought through a tough field in the singles to claim another GOLD, which should elevate her to BE grade 1 @ u13. Well done girls.
There was more medal action to come as Rory paired up with young Harry to cause a few surprises as they steadily won each match in their group to reach the final of the boys doubles, meeting Ethan & his partner in the final. The HBC boys fought hard but were outdone in tight 3 setter 8 11, 11 3, 8 11 but well done to Harry for a well earned Silver in his first BE u11 tourney.
Thomas kicked off his first GOLD tourney with a win against BE grade 1 player Daniel Green from Surrey before putting up a valiant fight against #1 seed Johnnie Torjusen.
In the final Rory then met a somewhat unconventional player in the form of Tommy Bridger the 1st seed. Indeed Rory could not get to grips with Tommy's deceptive soft drops & hard punch clears leaving Tommy on top throughout the 2 sets, emerging as winner.
The final could not have been closer, but sadly another silver was on the cards for Alex despite winning the first set comfortably. Molly stuck to her task and ran out a 17-15 winner in the 3rd!
With current senior Ladies World champions Tracy Middleton & Jo Muggeridge amongst our coaching staff, HBC Juniors are well placed to figure in the medals at the recent Kent Junior championships & figure prominently they certainly did.....read on....
Silver: Holly Williams and Libby Saunders
Luke Bailey shone through a tough box to reach the final, beating Thomas Allen in a close semi but could not match an in form Rory on the day.
They were to emerge as Silver medal winners but gave our HBC girls a close match.
All 3 juniors have trained with HBC in the past and have now moved back to their local clubs.
Top HBC coaches Jo Muggeridge and Tracy Middleton have reached the final of the ladies doubles & look good to win their first world vets championship gold in Canada. They play England's Dineen & Blair today, Saturday having beaten French pair Gersel & Jerome in the semi 21 11, 21 18.No photo's or champagne yet, but knowing Jo the coca-cola will be fizzing post the final match. Go get them girls......
