Hildenborough Badminton - hit it harder.....
The following letter has been sent out to our regional school sports partnership and all local primary school (state and private) are welcome to contact us directly if they have not received the information through any other channel. This offer is great value for any local school wishing to try an introductory badminton course, delivered by Heather Olver and with a significant portion of the costs met by Badminton England. We hope to see many new young players joining HBC as a result of this initiative.

Good Afternoon Laura,

I trust you are well? I am writing with information on a new junior badminton initiative from Badminton England that Hildenborough Junior Badminton Club in Partnership with Badminton England would like to offer to local primary schools in your area.

Hildenborough BC is based at Walthamstow Hall & they have been successful at coaching all levels of player these past few years with over 16 County champions & 3 England juniors in our ranks (as well as a European Champion!)

The Racket Pack sessions are fun sessions for children aged 5-11 coached by our own ex-Rio Olympian and qualified coach Heather Olver, although our goal would be to help sports teachers themselves deliver the sessions in the future.

No kit is required for these sessions as Heather will bring this with her.

The club will also look to host a series of Racket Pack badminton festivals for schools that have completed the initial 6 week sessions with Heather.

As you know this is a busy time for PE Leads planning for the next Academic year and I am keen to make sure schools are aware of the great offer attached.

Heather is  looking to start these sessions in September with a view to having their first Racket Pack Badminton Festivals at Walthamstow Hall in November & December.

Badminton England’s School Games offer for 2018-2019 will now be a festival linked to its Racket Pack programme – full details on this, including formats, will be circulated by the Youth Sport Trust in the coming months.

The attached letter details the offer and I would ask that you share with your schools.

Schools that are  interested, or have any questions please can they contact Alex Easton from Hildenborough BC via email at or call 07802783978.

The online resource is free for schools and access can be provided by completing our online form.

For your information:

The Online Resource for The Racket Pack provides you with access to:

•             Lesson plans: 6 lessons per module and 6 modules in total covering both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

•             Technical videos: We have developed videos for both Teachers and Coaches development as well as videos that can be shown in lesson to help children learn the skill

•             Ability to build your own sessions by choosing between the various warm ups, skills and games.

To ensure consistency and effective progression through the age groups each module within The Racket Pack will cover the following key skills:

•             Grips

•             Movement

•             Forehand and Backhand Serving (Key Stage 1 = Backhand only)

•             Underarm

•             Overhead

We have also developed a set format to the resource so that every 30 minute lesson is broken down into:

•             Warm up: Fun activity incorporating badminton skills

•             Skill based activity: Development of identified skills through fun practices

•             Embedding the skill: Incorporating the skill into a practical game
